San Storm (1998-2013)

  • Car brand: San
  • Convertible roof type: Fabric

Jeeps aside, the San Storm is India’s first convertible car. It is built in Goa but was designed by the French Le Mans Group with a tubular steel chassis and glass-fibre body and with an 1149 cc Renault engine. It’s designed to be affordable as well as fun but still comes with air-conditioning, electric windows and leather seats. A low 820kg kerb weight keeps things interesting despite the small engine. It may not be a state of the art car, but it gives an enjoyable drive and a touch of glamour for a low priced convertible.

I own one of very few San Storm cars in ther UK, and under the bonnet, it largely uses Renault parts – ie radiator and engine. Inside, there are Matiz door handles. It’s a real hotch potch of other cars, but very cute and attracts attention!
