The Mercedes-Benz SL 63 AMG is all about that charismatic V8 engine. It sounds fantastic, growling at low speeds which turns into a whale as the revs go up. There is plenty of power and torque, of course, and thanks to the aluminium body structure it is even more effective than before. It isn’t just about power tough; this is a very flexible powerplant. Equally at home pottering around in traffic as it is on the track.
The styling of this generation SL lacks the harmony and elegance of previous cars, but it does look purposeful. The interior trim is beautifully put together and follows the same SLS inspired style as other Mercedes contemporaries. This one gets all the luxuries though and all the latest technology ensures that you are always in comfort.
The Mercedes-Benz SL 63 AMG remains one of the finest luxury sports cars money can buy. The latest engine and chassis tuning make it a great drivers car, but it has lost none of grand touring refinement.
I have a 2013 SL 63 with the performance package. The SL 63 AMG is powerful. luxurious and a bit understated. Living in Southern California along the beach, it does not get the stares of a Mclaren or a Ferrari. It is more luxurious than a supercar. However, it does have a beast of an engine, sounds awesome, and does get a little attention. Maintenance is not too bad, hard to beat German engineering. Less annual running costs than typical import supercars. It is also hard to beat going from a hardtop coupe to a convertible in just 14 seconds. No complaints, unless you want a ton of stares.
