The redesigned XK8, now simply known as the Jaguar XK Convertible, steps up a gear to compete with impressive competition from Porsche, Mercedes and BMW. A truly fantastic drive, this Jaguar convertible is hard to fault. Maybe not as fast as a Porsche 911 between two points but the XK is more fulfilling from behind the wheel. Sporting when you want it to be but always refined and composed. The Jaguar XK was foremost designed as a convertible and it shows. Handling and chassis stiffness is excellent and visually the car is close to perfect. The rear seats are only a token offering.
The XK is the last in a line of old-school grand touring Jaguar convertibles that began with the XJS. While it has much more modern engineering and trim than its forefathers it shares their relaxed gentleman’s club atmosphere, elegant but understated looks and refined effortless power.
As the Jaguar XK production winds up it is looking very keenly priced next to the newer F-Type.
A joy to drive. A joy to look at. A lovely car…….
I have owned two SLs, a 3.2 Boxster, an Alfa spider and 3.5 SLK plus lots of fairly powerful saloons such as 5 and 3 series, S types, E classes etc. The XK is special compared to all these. That said, I also own a Range Rover Sport (4.4 diesel) at this time. If I had to exist with only one car then the Jag would go and I would keep the Rangie – amazing!
