The first generation Audi R8 Spyder V10 is a viciously powerful car yet offers a surprising level of practicality. Underneath is a version of the 5.2-litre Lamborghini engine from the Gallardo that gives it class-leading performance figures while undercutting its Italian sister in price. Like the coupe, the open-top two-seater Audi features a spacious, high-quality interior that, helped by a front luggage compartment with a useful 100-litre capacity, is genuinely comfortable and practical enough to make everyday use a pleasure rather than a chore.
The big V10 produces masses of power and an Earth-shattering sound but in driving performance, you won’t notice a great difference between this and the V8 Spyder. The manual gearbox cars are becoming particularly sought after with this no longer an option on the second generation car.
