Although it looks very similar to the previous model the Maserati Spyder is in fact radically different. 25cm shorter, a new Ferrari built engine and an improvement in build quality bring this car up to scratch. It holds its own against competition like the 911 and Jaguar XKR convertibles and offers an unusual alternative. The only disappointment is that The Maserati lost its elegant boomerang-shaped rear lights by demand from the American market.
I’ve owned a GT for 6yrs. It has proved reliable and a real joy to drive.
One great benefit is that unlike most similar cars it is very comfortable and has a large boot, so it is ideal for touring. We’ve had 2wk European trips and had no problem in carrying all the luggage we needed. No floor hugging spoilers when getting on and off ferries, or when you find yourself on some less than perfect mountain road.
Although it’s not cheap to run or maintain, with very little depreciation the overall running costs are OK.
If you want a car that’s fanatastic to drive, with a beautiful engine scream when you floor it, but quiet when cruising down the autobahn at 120, and with all of the magic of the Maserati name I don’t know a better one.derssmi
I bought a 2006 Spyder Cambiocorsa with 13k miles on it for my 60th birthday in April of 2013. It is December 1st of the same year and I just passed 20,000 miles. Had to put a new clutch in the first month. I had picked out a beautiful 911 4S seal grey cabriolet, manual 6 speed with cinnamon brown leather interior. I knew the owner of the dealership as he had sold me good exotics in the past. He had the spyder on the lot and thought I should compare them with test drives.
The 911 was fabulous at a good price, but the Maserati is uniquely elegant, phenomenal to drive, they don’t make this 2 seater model anymore (no friends have one as they do have Porsches, Aston Martins, and everything else.
This is no American luxury shopping center sports car – made to look sporty, but carry the family and groceries.

Awesome car, why get a Porsche when you can have this beauty.
