Morgan are one of the very few family owned independent car companies in the world and what makes them really special is that they have been building cars for 100 years at the same British location.
The company has stayed fiercely independent and its lack of innovation and small production numbers have kept it safe from being swallowed up by larger corporations. While in its early years Morgan was an innovative company their cars of the last 60 years have changed very little. They continue to build their unmistakable cars by hand for a select and appreciative market. Even their attempts of modernisation are based on the same classic design.
Their centenary car is no different. The Morgan Plus 8 Speedster is a classically styled roadster stripped back to the bare essentials with the focus on performance and driver experience. While it may not compare in handling to a modern sports car it has an analogue approach which makes it far more rewarding to drive.
Powered by a 4.8 litre BMW V8 engine with 367 horsepower funnelled through a 6 speed manual or ZF 6 speed automatic transmission. Tope speed is 148 mph and the 0-62mph (0-100kmph) sprint takes just 4.2 seconds.
The lightweight hand formed aluminium bodywork has additional louvres and a traditional leather bonnet strap. Each car will feature different styling features inspired by cars from the companies history.
The Morgan Plus 8 Speedster will be built in limited numbers in 2014 for a UK price of £69,995 including tax.
