The Citroen C3 Pluriel is part of a long tradition of unusual and innovative cars. Designed to be a fun but practical family convertible it has a very versatile multi-piece roof. There are five different arrangements for the roof depending on what you are using this Citroen for, the weather or just how you feel. First of all there is the closed roof, this can then be pushed back in the middle leaving wide pillars on either side from the windscreen to the rear wings. The Pluriel’s centre roof can also be removed completely including the rear window. If you want more sunshine the side pillars can then be removed to make a full convertible. The final layout is called ‘roadster pickup’ and involves folding away the rear seats to give a cargo area.
The C3 Pluriel was phased out in 2010.
Do not EVER buy this car. Despite reading about all of its alleged weaknesses, I was COMPELLED to buy this car simply because it is so cute and querky. It has been the worst buy I have ever made. The boot turns into a swimming pool every time it rains and when you lift up the boot whatever water is left in the rubber guides immediately pours in onto the contents. The roof has jumped off its tracks and Citroen said they couldn’t repair it but I could buy another for £3,200. 3 garages later and a lot of money, the roof no longer shuts properly and the boot now refuses to open because of that. I could go on about the gear box breaking and the car losing all power when you want to move off at a junction but its all too depressing. I am left with an absolute DUD and all because I led with my heart and not my head.
I bought this car 2 years ago and i love it, i love driving it, i love looking at it, and most of all i love the fact you can have it 5 different ways, there are not many cars that can do that. It drives really nice and smooth, i have had no problems with it so far touch wood lol. I have been on many a long drives with it to cornwall and back and it has been great. There are lots of reviews that say they leak really bad this is true but mine never has, you just have to check them really well when your going to buy one just open the boot and check to see if there has been and leaking before and the smell inside should give it away, and most of all its a really fun car to own, i would definetly have another one. Hope this helps
We bought our C3 Pluriel second hand. We love it. It is ten years old and had covered 90000kms. The clutch needed doing as did the timing belt at this interval but the roof is fine and there are no leaks. The numerous ways we can and have used the car makes it so much more useful than a regular hatchback.
It might be old, but it still turns heads and I frequently find myself tied up answering questions from admirers.
The 1.6 litre engine is willing and the structure/weight low down provides nice road manners with crosswind stability and great handling.
We love it and are seriously considering selling the Passat and buying a second one!
It is brilliant – love it. I have had two. a green 2003 and updated it to a black 2010 (though dont like the black so much).
I have had a full sized table tennis table in the back, and on another occasion a large american side by side fridge/freezer. What other car could do that? It is a great fun toy, and very practical. There have been problems with them – my first leaked and needed a new roof, but that was done under warranty. The current one needed a head gasket at 40k which was annoying, but other than that they have been very economic. I am thinking of getting mine resprayed in a bright colour – just got to decide what…
